Progress Report

The Carolina Wren family has almost  finished it's construction in my staghorn fern right outside my bedroom window.!
I took these from inside and the one close-up you can see  Mr. CW bringing some of it's last pieces .
Click on the top photo.
The nest is to the left of the chain and the opening is as small as the bird, and they are very small.   BJ

They're Baaack!

Last year almost to the day, tiny birds came to build their nest in my staghorn fern right outside my window.
They're Carolina Wrens, and are back again .. just starting their construction inside the fern.   I was told they could be the same ones that will return year after year.  So I guess they liked the accomodations and it's free!  click on the photo and you'll see her inside.     BJ

Major Event

This is right after and they are singing their hearts out...
ok, ok your welcome !

An almost disaster prevented with the Carolina Wren Family.   As you know they hatched 2 babies in my staghorn fern and have been working oh so hard at taking good care of them. This morning while watering some plants near the fern, one of the babies decided to leave the nest, fell to the grass, the nest is only about 5 ft . off the ground.. and no they're not ready to fly...
Mom and Dad were frantic, baby was wondering what all the fuss was about and Grandma (that would be me) was having trouble breathing!  It's only about 15 feet to the edge of the wall of the lake.. I grabbed a soft towel, Mama is  screaming for Daddy, he's off getting grubs and worms of course. It took 2 tries to get that little thing, got it back in the nest, and all is well... Oh, I can breath again.

Nature is Wonder !!

This is going on right outside my window and back door.. Two little birds (if someone knows what they are, tell me)  3 days now constructing what will be their little home.  You can see it, in the right hand corner of the photo..  Both working together (hey its the least He can do... she'll do all the hard work after this)  Back and forth, hundreds of times . They are protected by an awning , food and water right nearby, so does this mean I'll be a grandmother?   I'll keep you posted.. bj
